Favorites: Halfway through 2016

A collection of my favorite reads so far this year.

June has come and gone and so far I’ve read 39 books. They have all been great too which is why I wanted to share my favorite reads so far this year. I’m also really interested in looking back at the end of the year and seeing which of these makes the final cut for the end of the year favorites. I’m sure the list will change, but for now, I’m extremely happy with the lineup. I hope that you’ll find at least one you haven’t read yet and give it a go!!

Today, I’m dressed head to toe Americana and ready to celebrate! Sadly, Zach has to work so I’ll just be chilling at home. There will be sunshine, bbq foods, and of course a good book! Later, I’ll most likely stay home with our pup and watch the fireworks from upstairs. I love this time of year. I hope you all have a fun and safe holiday!

Happy Fourth of July!

Book Review: Between Shades of Gray & Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

A beautiful and haunting tale during WWII.

BETWEEN SHADES OF GRAY

Read | 4/5 stars | Buy your copy of Between Shades of Gray

Overview: Lina and her family are being forcefully evacuated from their home in Lithuania during WWII. As they’re being taken away, Lina’s father gets separated from them and they’re all thrown onto a train. We follow their journey on the train through harsh conditions and eventually they arrive at a prison camp. Lina is determined to survive so she can find her father. A beautiful and sad story about love, hope, struggle, and determination.

What I loved:
How much it made me think.

What I didn’t: The pace was a little slow, I wish I had felt more for some of the other characters.

SALT TO THE SEA

Haunting, must read! | 5/5 stars | Buy your copy of Salt to the Sea

Overview: J
oana, Florian, Emilia, and Alfred are our main characters. Each of them from different countries with no connections to each other. What they do have in common is that they are all trying to survive the madness surrounding them. Suddenly all of their paths become intertwined as they make their way towards a ship that is supposed to take them away from the war and onto freedom.

What I loved: The opening lines of each character, all the emotions, and Emilia.

What I didn’t: The ending popped up on me and felt a little rushed. Alfred… UGGGGHHH!

If you liked The Book Thief or All The Light We Cannot See: What are you waiting for?! Pick this up right now!!

Wrap Up: April 2016 & May TBR

My favorite April read was…

I see a reoccurring theme here… I’m overly ambitious with my TBR! I really thought I would do better, but sadly didn’t. I guess I was just too dang busy enjoying all the fun things to do in Hawaii! My favorite April read was hands down Salt to the Sea! I HIGHLY recommend it and if you haven’t read Between Shades of Gray, read that first! It is so freaking good you guys!! I hope you enjoy the video and as always, feel free to comment if you have questions about a book or if you’ve read any of these. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Wednesday friends!!
